150 Turkish troops deployed to northern Iraq
Around 150 Turkish troops have been deployed to northern Iraq to replace its current unit, Turkish military sources told Anadolu Agency on Friday.

The troops were sent by road to Bashiqa town in Mosul district, the sources told AA on condition of anonymity.

Turkish soldiers in Mosul region were sent to the region two-and-a-half years ago in order to train Iraqi Peshmerga forces.

Along with the troops, 20 to 25 tanks were also dispatched to the area, the sources added.

Meanwhile the Iraqi government has demanded that Turkey withdraw troops it sent to an area near the northern city of Mosul.

The move was a “serious breach of Iraqi sovereignty” Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi’s office said in a statement.

Mosul has been under the control of the Islamic State (IS) group since last year.
