Turks wake up confused as clocks go back for daylight saving
Millions of Turks woke up to a confusing morning on Sunday as tablets, computers and smartphones had automatically altered the time even though Turkey is not to set clocks back an hour for another two weeks.

Saturday night marked the end of the daylight saving time in Europe and the United States and here in Cyprus as well.  However, the Turkish government delayed implementing the change by two weeks because of the upcoming parliamentary election on Nov. 1.

The delay will ensure that there will be daylight during the opening hours of the vote, thus making it easier and safer for the Turks to cast their votes in the early hours of the day.

Twitter was abuzz with “What time is it now?” questions on Saturday night and throughout the early hours of Sunday.

In a statement, the Information and Communications Technologies Authority (BTK) warned citizens to manually adjust the time settings on their smartphones and other electronic devices in order to avoid confusion.

It was confusing for Turkish Cypriots living in Cyprus as well as they changed their clocks back in line with Europe whilst Turkey is now an hour ahead. TV programmes from Turkish television are scheduled to Show on ‘Turkey time’ which in truth is an hour earlier for TCs.
