NEU opens the Department of Filmmaking Techniques
Many new departments offering educational and training opportunities on various specialties will be opened by the Near East University within 2014-2015 academic year. Among these new departments, the Department of Filmmaking Techniques coming into service under the Faculty of Communication is expected to attract the great interest of those interested.
According to the press statement issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of the Near East University, the medium of instruction is designed as English for the newly opened Department of Filmmaking Techniques. The content and course program offered by the department have the feature of being the first amongst institutions offering filmmaking training in Turkey, Cyprus and neighboring countries.
According to the info delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökçe Keçeci Şekeroğlu, the Acting Dean of NEU Faculty of Communication, similar programs that carried out successfully in the US and Europe were taken as baseline in designing the course contents of the department and determining the instructors to carry out the scheduled courses.
Highlighting the crucial role of English as the medium of instruction in ensuring more global sharing and education standard, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökçe Keçeci Şekeroğlu noted that in the academic year 2014-2015 the students are given privilege of working through the filmmaking courses with the instructors including Gabriela Olaru Evren (PhD), Serkan Çankaya (MA), Pieter Verburg, Emrah Öztürk (MA), Serkan Özkuran (MA), and Tamer Garip. She also stated that important figures from the cinema and film industry would be included in the body of training staff in the forthcoming days and it would be announced on the webpage of the Department of Filmmaking Techniques of the Near East University.
Another striking feature of the Department of Filmmaking Techniques is that it offers more than one options regarding the educational period. The courses, which designed on the basis comprising multiple options for education period and aimed at offering four year undergraduate diploma, two year associate degree diploma, and certificate for one year, provide students with opportunities to realize their future plans in the line with their needs. Touching upon the high cost of receiving similar programs abroad, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökçe Keçeci Şekeroğlu stated that they created special opportunities for students who wanted to enroll in the associate degree program or certificate program which would be opened within the academic year 2014-2015. Şekeroğlu delivered further information by stating that the student from overseas would receive their education with 50 percent (2800 ) scholarship while TRNC citizens receive their education with 2300 scholarship.
