Tourism ministry and Kyrenia council roll up sleeves to improve city

Tourism Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu yesterday received the Kyrenia Mayor Nidai Güngördü.
During the visit Sucuoğlu said that he was aware of the problems in the Girne area and the old harbour and would be working closely with the municipality in order to overcome the problems.
He added that in order to strengthen and repair the wave breakers at the antique harbour a tender would be opened in the coming days and that the Municipality needed to carry out restoration work at Kyrenia Castle.
Mayor Güngördü for his part pledged to work further to liven up the area.
The mayor said that in the last three months they recorded 106,000 people in the area; in the winter this figure drops to 80,000, which he said is still a large number of people who need more services to meet the demands.
Gungordu pointed to projects such as open air bus services for tourists to see St Hilarion Castle and the Bellapais Monastery.
