Negotiators hold full day of talks yesterday; Burcu briefs the press
Presidential Spokesperson Barış Burcu in a statement after said that the two negotiators had carried out an exercise on the property chapter, adding that they agreed to share this exercise again following their own evaluations.
Explaining that the two negotiators had not only discussed the property issue, Burcu said that the Foreign Ministry Undersecretary and EU Working Group member Erhan Erçin held a constructive meeting with EU officials on the issue of agriculture.
“The two negotiators came together with several members of the committee assigned with the duty of drafting federal laws for the future. They exchanged views on a work program” he said.
Burcu also added that Nami and Mavroyannis held preparatory discussions on how to move the negotiating process forward and how the work program will be scheduled if the talks reach the drafting stage of federal laws.
Burcu reiterated that the leaders would be holding more intense talks in November as they had agreed previously but said that the speculation in the press that the leaders would be meeting '6 times' did not reflect reality because more meetings than that would be held. He added that not only was November busy internally but because of the upcoming visits of Foreign Secretaries from the US, Russia, Germany and UK. Asked whether the ministers would be calling on Mr Akinci, Burcu responded that it was a possibility.
