Speaking to the press after the 2 hour meeting, Eide said there was no set timetable or schedule for the negotiation process however it was not possible for the talks to continue forever.

Responding to comments that there were issues in the process, Eide said that only now had they moved on to subjects never discussed before therefore  if there were issues it stemmed from these; however the two leaders decisiveness and commitment to the process was on-going, he added.

Pointing out that they were entering into an intense period Eide said as of next Friday, the leaders had agreed to meet more regularly. He repeated as he had done after his meeting with President Anastasiades that no one should be shocked that the process was hard.

“Cypriots have been negotiating for years but at present a real desire and opportunity existed for a settlement” said Eide and added however that they were in the depths of real difficult issues presently. It would take time and it will be difficult, said the UNSG Special Advisor; however following meetings with the two leaders he could see their commitment to a solution and their belief that it was the time now.
