Lafazanis leads breakaway MPs from Syriza to form Popular Union

The new parliamentary group outnumbers the third elected party in parliament Golden Dawn and according to the constitution will receive the third mandate to form government.
The 25 MPs who have left SYRIZA for the Popular Union are:
Panagiotis Lafazanis, Stathis Leoutsakos, Kostas Isichos, Rachel Makri, Kostas Lapavitsas, Dimitris Stratoulis, Evgenia Ouzounidou, Thanasis Petrakos, Stefanos Samoilis, Athanasios Skoumas, Yannis Stathas, Alexandra Tsanaka, Despina Charalambidou, Eleni Psarea, Thomas Kotsias, Aglaia Kyritsi, Vasilis Kyriakakis,Michalis Kritsotakis, Ioanna Gaitani, Litsa Amanatidou, Yannis Zerdelis, Kostas Delimitros, Ilias Ioannidis, Zisis Zannas and Vangelis Diamantopoulos.
This development is the first step towards forming a new political party.
Following the Prime Minister’s Thursday evening announcement, Lafazanis stated that the Left Platform would “contribute immediately towards the formation of broad, anti-bailout, progressive, democratic front” with goal of “enforcing the abolition of all memoranda”.
